Grand Challenges for Engineering

Ethiopia posts big gains in access to drinking water, John Vidal, The Guardian, 4 March 2011, 22 September 2011 (Grand Challenge)

The amount of people in Ethiopia with access to clean drinking water has increased significantly, allowing for Ethiopians to concentrate more on other daily tasks instead of spending so much of their time getting clean water. Over the past decade, the number of people with access to clean water has tripled in Ethiopia.

MATLAB Demonstrations

The Loma Prieta MATLAB Demonstration was my favorite because it showed how mathematical analysis and functions from matlab could take a set of data and graph and sort it to give certain parameters about the earthquake. I was impressed by all the different factors that were involved in the earthquake and how each of them could be isolated and examined through graphical and mathematical analysis.
