About Me
I am currently a student studying Mechanical Engineering in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. I grew up in Summit, NJ and attended Summit High School, the alma mater of Willie Wilson, the major league baseball. I am extremely happy to escape the frozen tundra of the north and reside in this North Carolina paradise.
Name Pronunciation
My full given name is Griffin Ashley Cooper, pronounced (GRIF-in ASH-lee COO-pur). My first name is pronounced exactly like the mythical creature "Gryphon," a lion with eagle wings.
Name History
A few weeks prior to my birth, my parents were teetering betweent the name Griffin and Kevin. My sister, Lauren, took in upon herself to be in charge of the naming operation and decided an experiment was necessary. She stood at the foot of the stairs in my family's old home in Madison, NJ and pretended to call upstairs for her newly arriving brother. She yelled, "Griffin!" "Kevin!" Confident of which name sounded better being barked up the stairwell, she turned to my parents and with an authoritative head nod of assurance said, "It's Kevin." To my sister's dismay, I came into this world a Griffin. Maybe that's what triggered the early childhood tension.
Favorite Matlab Demo
The 3-D surfaces demo is my favorite demonstration as it allows the user to view and manipulate the different styles available when graphing 3D surfaces. It is an interactive demo that allows you to change the Plot type, the shading, the Colormap, as well as viewing the axes. In addition to its visual representation of the plot, the demonstration translates your viewing preference into computer code via the command window. This demo was highly informative and fun as it walks you through each step to make a clean, visually pleasing 3D graph.
