About Me
Hey everyone!
I’m Niloy (pronounced: knee-loy), and I’m from Portland, Oregon. I am currently a freshman at Duke University planning on majoring in Biomedical Engineering. I’m a socially outgoing, reflective, and dynamic individual who is always open to new ideas. I’d have to say my two passions are music and sports. I’ve played the violin since the age of five, and I was the Associate Concertmaster of the Portland Youth Philharmonic, the first nationally accredited youth orchestra. Currently, I am a member of the Duke Symphony Orchestra (DSO). Besides violin, I play the alto saxophone and occasionally dabble in other instruments. I’ve tried my hand at composing as well.
With regards to sports, I really am a fanatic. I follow pretty much every sport known to mankind (basketball, football, baseball, tennis, cricket, all the Olympic sports, etc.). Coming from Portland, my favorite sports team is the Portland Trail Blazers, but I also love a lot of the Texas sports teams (I was born in Texas). However, I would have to say that my favorite sports by far are swimming, basketball, and ultimate frisbee.
Besides majoring in Biomedical Engineering, I’d like to double major in music, take classes in cultural anthropology and psychology, and pursue a certificate in global health or neuroscience. I’d also like to get involved with some of the student organizations on campus, such as Engineers without Borders and the club swimming and basketball teams. I am also a part of the Engineering Frontiers FOCUS group.
In my free time, I love playing sports with my friends, surfing the web, and spending time with my family. I love to travel, and my favorite trip thus far was in the summer of 2005 when I went to Malaysia, Singapore, and India.
