Who am I

My name is Adan Cortez-Perez and I come from Phoenix, AZ. I am a current undergraduate, class of 2025, attending Duke University, intending to pursue a major in the field of Civil Engineering, specifically structural engineering.

Name Pronunciation

There are many ways my name could be pronounced; however, I would prefer to be called as Adan Cortez ("EYY-den KOR-tez"). I have never actually used a nickname in my life, but I would be open to any new acronyms for my name.

Hobbies

Outside of school, I am involved in a variety of different extracurricular activities that include:

  • Hiking
  • Swimming
  • Running
  • Playing Chess
  • Playing Tennis
  • Playing Soccer

Community service

I strongly believe in paying it forward to others, for today we help them so that tomorrow they help us. I have been involved in a variety of community service programs that include:

  • St. Mary's Food Bank
  • St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Bank/Shelter
  • Helping Hands

Work Experience

I tend to learn the best in a hands-on learning environment, especially when it comes to work. I have been given the opportunity to learn new skills throughout my jobs that include:

  • Swap N' Meet Vendor
  • Party House Rentals
  • Landscaping
  • Truss Services

Grand Challenge of Engineering

With a wide range of challenges yet to be solved, engineers must distribute solutions to problems by different sections. Indeed, the "restore and improve urban infrastructure" section is dealt with independently from other problems to gain a better understanding of the problem.
