As healthcare has become more modernized since hospitals and other facilities across the country have opted to switch to electronic health records (EHRs), advances in health informatics are making it increasingly easier for for patients to add to their EHRs without making an appointment at a facility, Connected World Magazine reports.

This week at the American Telemedicine Association conference, MedApps and Phoenix Kiosk announced that they have created a cloud-integrated kiosk and a smart card system that will let patients upload health data taken at home, such as glucose and blood pressure levels, to their EHR. These kiosks will be available at retail stores and other locations, according to the news outlet.

Officials from the companies told the media provider that the kiosks will be ideal for individuals who do not have easy access to a computer or a smartphone.

The desire to use technology in the healthcare industry will lead to the growth of many fields, most of which require higher education, such as a health informatics degree. For example, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports that individuals who become computer and information systems managers are predicted to see an employment growth of 17 percent through 2018.
