Brief Bio:
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA and love everything about the city and love living in the city... and found myself at Duke. I intend to study environmental engineering and am currently enrolled in chemistry, engineering programming, multivariable calculus and writing.

Fun Fact:

My initials are "jfk," but you could probably tell from my username.

HW Assignment 2:

  • My favorite demonstration on matlab was the demo on matrix manipulation. Matrices are an integral part of the usefulness of matlab, so being able to become accustomed to regularly using them to compute functions is crucial in terms of developing a familiarity with matlab. The operations and their functions are a little strange regarding normal mathematical operations; for instance, adding the scalar quantity "7" to a matrix will increase the value of each element within the matrix by one, while in normal mathematics, that operation is invalid (I think?) because it is adding a scalar to a vector. It is also important to learn shortcuts in writing functions on matlab, and learning how to type one number in the command for the identity matrix and zeros matrix will help to provide a solid foundation for future shortcuts as well. Transposing matrices will also come in handy. Finally, the word "eigenvalue" caught my eye because earlier in the day I read about eigenvalues in chemistry regarding Schrodinger's Equation (another fun fact).
