About Me

My name is Collyn Heier and I am a member of the Pratt School of Engineering class of 2017. I am a tentative biomedical engineering major with a minor in global health. Outside of class, I am a proud part of the Duke University Marching Band as well as looking into joining Engineers for World Health and J Street U.

Interests

I am an avid reader, martial artist, runner, biker, curler, trumpet player, interfaith advocate, and traveler.

Grand Challenge

Reverse Engineering the Brain May Accelerate Robotics Research, Stew Magnuson, National Defense Magazine, updated March 2009, accessed 27 August 2013 (Reverse-Engineering the Brain)

MATLAB Demonstration

My favorite MATLAB demonstration was Viewing a Penny. I was particularly in awe of this one mainly because it just furthers the truth that there is a mathematical basis for everything. It also opened my eyes to MATLAB and its myriad of uses. It acts as motivation to learn how to properly use this program and apply it to engineering, because I find it very compelling that there are people out there that have the skills to mathematically model almost anything we encounter during our daily lives.
