About Me

Greetings, fellow Pratties. My name is Colin Reed, and I am currently an undergraduate student in the Pratt School of Engineering at Duke University. As of right now, I plan on majoring in mechanical engineering; or possibly civil.

I am originally from the lovely town of Twin Falls, Idaho. Before you ask, yes, I do love potatoes. Also, I hate Boise State more than any other college or university on this planet (although the undergraduate academics there are less challenging than many high schools, so it hardly qualifies as an institution of higher learning). Anyway, I was fortunate enough to have Dean Guttentag grant me a place in the Class of 2014 from the admissions waitlist, and I am excited to be here in Durham now.

Name Pronunciation

Well, I guess I have a relatively simple name. It is pronounced cah-lin (cah like a crow) reed (as in "read a book"). The two most common mistakes that people make with my name are pronouncing my first name colon. This angers me to no end, as my parents did not name me after a body part. Second, people tend to spell my first name with 2 l's. I guess Collin is more well known than Colin, but if you can, remember that the correct spelling is C-O-L-I-N.

MATLAB Demos

My favorite MATLAB demo was the "3-D Surface Plots" demo because not only was it a representation of a mathematical function; but it was also a work of art.

Grand Challenges

Here is the link to an article I found on the Grand Challenge of Providing Access to Clean Water:
