About Me

Hi everyone, I'm Ian and I come from Singapore. I will almost certainly be majoring in ECE. I like long-distance running, soccer, reading and goofing around.

Inside Paul Allen’s Plan to Reverse-Engineer the Human Brain, Greg Miller, Wired, updated October 24, 2013, accessed August 27 2014 (Grand Challenge)

I liked this article by Greg Miller of Wired, which is very relevant to reverse-engineering the brain. It shows how Paul Allen is funding a very specific research programme: to gain a complete understanding of how the mouse brain interprets visual information. My favourite parts were when he contrasted the simple structures in programming to the complex structure of the brain and when he called the brain something with an "amazing level of fractal complexity".

Favourite MATLAB Demo

The demo on the Loma Prieta Earthquake was good. It not only showed how MATLAB can be used as a tool to view and manipulate new data but also very neatly presents the capabilities of MATLAB to beginners.
