About Me
Hey! My name is Caroline Horrow. I'm a BME major in the class of 2016. I'm also currently in the Genomes FOCUS program and will probably pursue the certificate in Genome Sciences & Policy. I'm from West Palm Beach, Florida, and currently live in Alspaugh, the best dorm on East! (No stalking, please.)
My interests include singing, lab research, pink sunglasses, and the movie Elf. I'm also a huge Duke basketball fan so you're likely to find me tenting in K-Ville!
Name Pronunciation
Caroline: "care-OH-line" (NOT Carolyn, although I'll generally respond to that too.)
Horrow: "HAH-row" (rhymes with borrow, sorrow, tomorrow...)
Grand Challenges for Engineering Articles
I was interested in the challenge of advancing health informatics. Both of these articles demonstrate the importance of communication between doctors and patients, and the potential of technology to improve patient care.
Many Test Results Left Unread as Patients Leave Hospital: Study, Steven Reinberg, HealthDay, updated 14 August 2012, accessed 7 September 2012 (Advance health informatics)
Online communication tool empowers patients, Dan Bowman, FierceHealthIT, updated 5 September 2012, accessed 7 September 2012 (Advance health informatics)
MATLAB Demos
My favorite MATLAB demo was "Viewing a Penny" because I thought it was an interesting way to show how a data set can be displayed in a more visual way, using a contour map.
I also liked playing the "Minesweeper" demo, and thought the "Coder/Decoder" and "Soma Cube" demos were interesting.
