Introduction
Hi fellow Pratt members!
My name is Jackie and I come from Singapore. I am a first year student at Trinity with the intention of transferring into Pratt to do ECE at the end of 2014 fall semester. I have little or no background in coding but I am excited to learn more about the things we can do with our computer!
Interests
I am a sports person and I have experience competing in basketball, rugby and canoeing for my high school/middle school. My favourite player is Blake Griffin from Los Angeles Clippers. I am also a great fan of economics, chemistry and physics.
Grand Challenges for Engineering
With the recent outbreak of Ebola in Africa, I found an article on the genetic engineering of Ebola drug particularly interesting. This article falls under the domain of engineering for better medicine.
Genetic Engineering and the fight against Ebola Henry Miller, Wall Street Journal, updated August 25 2014, accessed 27 August 2014
Favorite MATLAB Demonstration
I found a Minesweeper program known as xpbombs under the "other examples" domain the most interesting because I found out that MATLAB can also be used to create games with an interactive GUI type of game like Minesweeper. Although I don't understand majority of the MATLAB code involved in the making of the program, this program gets me excited in learning more coding.
On a side note, I also found that MATLAB has many practical applications in engineering and science, for instance the Loma Prieta Earthquake program and the Earthmap program are very useful to seismologists and cartographists.
