Claire Vannelli
I have just begun my freshman year at Duke University as a member of the Pratt School of Engineering. I am from Canada, and on the varsity crew team here at Duke. I am interested in pursuing BME and challenging myself here over the next four years. I live on the third floor of Aycock, and love to run, travel to new places, take photos and play Sudoku in my spare time. I love kittens and vegetables, and am so excited to be a part of the phenomenal class of 2015.

My name is more commonly misspelled than mispronounced but here is a hint: Kuh-LAIR Vuh-NEL-ie. It is Italian and yes, I have heard the Vanilla ice cream joke before.

MATLAB Demonstrations
I found the tutorials on MATLAB especially helpful and informative for people such as myself who are entirely new to the programming realm that exists in engineering. I most enjoyed and was intrigued by the 3-D Visualization section, the tab about Changing Transparency in particular. I have never worked with a 3-D plot, and am now realizing what a useful tool this is. I loved the graph shown under Plotting Matrix Data, with it's wide range of colours and movements, I was interested to learn how this was created so I too can plot points in such a way. This is an operation unique to MATLAB, because regular graphing calculators cannot depict points in such a way, and so these tutorials are vital. The demonstration is an easily accessible, easily understood tutorial about one of MATLAB's standout features, and it has left me curious for the other wonders we will discover in this program throughout the year.
