Grand Challenge Link
The following article is a great example of one of the Grand Challenges for Engineering. Specifically, it focuses on making solar energy more economical. Alternative energy is a very important topic in modern times, as fossil fuels are harmful to the environment and are being drained. As we advance as a species, it is important to have alternative options.

MATLAB Demonstrations
After taking a look at several of the MATLAB Demonstrations, assigned and not, my favorite by far would have to be the Traveling Salesman app. Looking at the demonstrations on calculations and graphing different functions and plots was interesting, but this app showed me the true possibilities of MATLAB. In making a program that can optimize traveling the shortest distance between a random number of cities in a matter of seconds is incredible. Further, it shows that MATLAB is much more than a calculator, that what can be done is to the user's own imagination.
