Brief Intro

Hello,

I am Deepak Sathyanarayan, a pre-med BME major and Bioinformatics minor at Duke University (Class of 2015). So far, my experience at Duke has been spectacular. The transfer process into the Pratt school of Engineering is a little rough, but I look forward to taking Engineering/BME course work more than anything. Hoping for the best!

Favorite MatLab Demonstration(s)

3D Surface Plots, Lorenz Attractor Animation, Visualizing the Three-Dimensional Structure of a Molecule:

From the provided list of "recommended" demonstrations, I really enjoyed the "3D Surface Plot" demo under Graphics because of its interactive UI and ability to manipulate the surfaces, color, and functions being graphed in a simple and clean window. Through it, I have learned some of the useful colormaps and surface commands that can be used to sufficiently visualize a desired function or set of data.

After I went through all of the recommended demos, I explored a bit, and found the "Lorenz Attractor Animation", which in itself, did not teach me too much about MatLab, but I could see that animated graphic are possible through MatLab. Also, the term Lorenz Attractor lead me on a little adventure which looked into the basis of this function and how the curved path behaves. The chaotic and non-covergent aspect of it really caught my interest.

Then I stumbled into the Bioinformatics Package and its related demos, one of which was the "Visualizing the Three-Dimensional Structure of a Molecule" demo. I had no idea that such visualizations were possible through MatLab. Since my interests lie in such fields as molecular biology/tissue engineering, tools such as those shown in this demo can and will be important for my future work.
